The first performer of the "Rachmaninoff: Preludes" on the DG label, Yara Bernet (Bernette Epstein) was born in Boston in 1920 and is a pianist of Russian descent. At the age of six months, she moved to Brazil, where she studied piano with Jos Quiras, a pupil of Franz Liszt, and made her debut at the age of 11 at the "Children's Concert" held at the Teatro Municipal de So Paulo. In 1955, he made his European debut as soloist with the Orchestre de la Musique de Paris in a performance of Villa-Lobos' "Bach in the Brazilian Style" under the composer's own direction. In 1972, he became a professor at the Higher School of Music in Hamburg, where he remained for 20 years and trained many musicians. This recording is from the 1970s.The first Rachmaninoff: Preludes on the DG label, but three preludes were cut due to the time limitation of the LP at that time.
