The MSE PRO Sudan IV alias Oil Soluble Red, Oil Red IV is a hydrophobic azo dye. It will stain triglycerides and give an intense red color. This dye does not stain lipid droplets or phospholipids. Being a fat soluble dye, it is commonly used to stain triglycerides, lipids and lipoproteins present in cells and tissues. This red beta-naphthol diazo dye has the same basic structure as Sudan III with the addition of two methyl groups, which increases its depth and intensity. It is soluble in oils, fats, hot benzene, paraffin oil or hot paraffin, and practically insoluble in water. It is a slightly purplish-red solution in alcohol or benzene. Sudan IV can be replaced by oil red O (oil red O).
