Interstate 99 (I-99) is a north-south United States Interstate Highway that serves portions of Pennsylvania and New York. Running for approximately 265 miles, it connects the cities of Interstate Park in Clarion County, PA, to Binghamton in Broome County, NY. Initially planned as part of the Interstate Highway System during the 1950s, construction on I-99 was completed in stages over several decades, with the final section opened in 2007. The highway serves primarily rural areas and provides a key transportation link between cities like Altoona, State College, and Lock Haven in Pennsylvania. It is designated as part of the U.S. Route 220 corridor for much of its length, although it diverges from US-220 at several points. I-99 is significant in connecting major transportation routes such as Interstate 80, Interstate 79, and New York State Routes 17 and 81. It provides important travel access to a region known for its scenic beauty, historical sites, and educational institutions like Pennsylvania State University.
