Description:
Johanna Senfter was born into a wealthy upper-class family in Germany. Interested in music from an early age, she studied composition, piano, and violin at the University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt. She then studied with Max Reger in Leipzig, where she demonstrated a talent that astonished her teacher. Her early works had a salon-like atmosphere influenced by Chopin and Schumann, but after studying with Reger, she shifted her style to chromatic melodies with complex counterpoint and bold harmony, but with a moderate and austere beauty. The two-disc set includes a selection of his early and evening compositions, as well as a selection of his later compositions. This two-disc set includes works from a wide range of compositional periods, from his early years to his later years. The two-disc set traces the transition of her style and her strong assertion as a composer can be felt in each piece. Naxos Japan
