Description:
Beethoven's "Grand Duke" and "Ghost" by the Capuon Brothers & Braley, dedicated to Archduke Rudolf, an important patron and close friend of Beethoven and a talented musical pupil. Although there are other works dedicated by Beethoven to the Grand Duke, this trio is particularly famous for its prestige and scale, and is commonly referred to as the "Grand Duke". The three instruments (violin, cello, and piano) are used most effectively, and a concerto-like color is incorporated. The third movement is a dreamy andante cantabile, with a beautiful melody that seems to connect us to some nostalgic memory. The Capuon brothers and Blarey have already recorded Beethoven's "Complete Violin Sonatas" and "Complete Cello Sonatas" to high acclaim. The three players do not engage in the sparks and sparring that characterized the great performances of yesteryear, but instead create a rich, large-scaled music with a finely honed and precise ensemble. The three musicianships are in sympathy with each other as they build up the music, and the joy of the ensemble is conveyed to the listener in this new interpretation of the performance.
