Braxton Bragg, CSA 001 (U.S. Civil War) Braxton Bragg was a prominent Confederate Army general during the American Civil War. Born on March 21, 1817, in Warrenton, Georgia, Bragg served as General No. 1 of the Confederate States Army (CSA). He is known for his commanding roles in several significant battles, such as the Battle of Pensacola and the Battles of Bull Run, Perryville, Stones River, Chickamauga, and Chattanooga. Despite these engagements, Bragg's military career was marked by controversy and criticism due to his often aggressive but unsuccessful strategies. He resigned from his position in March 1865, shortly before the end of the Civil War.
